Some sociologists have foreseen like Francis Fukuyama, the unity of the whole world, a finished process of globalization. This would also include one worldwide spoken language. but would the world really benefit from such a unification?
In my opinion, one worldwide spoken language would definitely lead to better international relations, because of the barrierless communication. People would be able to express their opinions, feelings and emotions very precisely with a low risk of misunderstanding, what is a major feature of all extraordinary diplomats .
Furthermore, there would be more marriages and friendships between people from different countries and cultures, which would also improve international relations. I base this statement on the research made by psychologists, suggesting that inter-cultural experiences lower the level of prejudice and stereotypical thinking.
In addition, if we had no obstacles in communicating with each other, inter-cultural knowledge would lead to a state, when people wouldnt be afraid of the fact, that others perceive the world differently.
But on the other hand, I thing it is important to consider whether all people should learn just one language or be bilingual.
One worldwide spoken language seems to be a noble project, but I wonder if this could lead to some unwanted side effects.
The language of a country is a key part of its culture, a way of identifying the person you are speaking to. What I would like to stress is that the language we are using is also a tool of self-identification. Having different languages in the world doesnt directly imply arguments, fights and wars. Moreover, our mother-tongue is a way of presenting the culture of our ancestors.
To summarize, in my opinion having one worldwide spoken language would improve international relations, but it is also important to know ones mother-tongue, because it presents the culture of our country . That is why I would propose that people should be bilingual
